This is a bronze sculpture made around one of the many times Franklin D. Roosevelt was trying to get reelected. It's also a clock. See how firmly he holds the ship's wheel, how strongly he stands on those bronze legs, and how flinty his gaze is as he steers the ship of state.
At his feet are the words, "F.D.R. THE MAN OF THE HOUR." What could be more evocative of a more innocent era, when at least some people respected the President and wanted his image in their homes? On the other hand, if Grampop Bonney were alive today he'd be rolling over in his grave to learn that someone in the family had paid good money for anything associated with FDR.
By the way, this clock is especially appropriate because when he wasn't busy being President, FDR actually did like things nautical (see the Wonderful World of Things: "Modern Mechanix").
