Balboa's First Sight of the Pacific Ocean
Dated 1890 Gebbie Chromolithograph
A Native American points out the Pacific Ocean to Balboa and his men. This image is unusual in its sensitivity toward Native Americans, for the 19th Century, because, not only is it NOT captioned "Balboa Discovers the Pacific," it is also subtitled, "America at time of invasion by Spain." The print, inked in a rich green-black, is in excellent condition with no discoloration, foxing, or other damage. It is printed on high-quality, heavy paper, is very lightly age-toned, and is blank on the reverse. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being 8 inches by 11-1/2 inches; the image area is 8 inches by 5-1/2 inches. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
