The Despatch
c. 1856 Steel Engraving
Men raise their thoughts to the Almighty before a decisive moment in this scene. The "despatch" lies on the floor, with an open leather mail pouch on the desk, from which it has just been removed. It is apparently General Washington. This steel engraving was part of The History of The United States of North America by W. H. Bartlett, and is engraved by J. Stephenson. The print is in excellent condition, extremely clean and sharp, with no discoloration or other damage. It is on heavy paper, and is blank on the reverse. The size is 10 inches by 6-1/2 inches, with an image area of about 6-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
