The Grass Market, Edinburgh, Scotland
c. 1880 Steel Engraving

The towering Edinburgh Castle dominate this lively street scene from the 19th century, just as it dominates the city today. But here we see bustling commerce of an age gone by. The detail is fantastic as milkmaids, horsecarts, merchants and dogs share the street with the Grass Market. The original drawing was by the legendary WH Bartlett; the engraving was by C. Cousen. The print is in excellent condition with no discoloration or other damage. It is on heavy paper, and is blank on the reverse. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being about 10 inches by 6-1/2 inches; the image area is 6-1/2 inches by 4-3/4 inches. There are four pinholes near the edge, well away from the image area, where it was stitched into the original volume. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
