19th Century Steel Engraving
The viewer looks out over ornate buildings and tall-masted ships into the sunset in this Jones & Co. Temple of the Muses print, from the original picture by Claude Lorrain. The original is in the National Gallery in London; the engraving was done by J. C. Armytage. The print is in excellent condition with no discoloration or other damage except for four pinholes in the margin, where it was stitched into the original volume. It is on heavy paper, and is blank on the reverse. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being 11 inches by 8-1/2 inches; the image area is 6-1/2 inches by 5 inches.
