Stephen A. Douglas (1813-1861) is best known for his role in the Lincoln-Douglas debates. He lost to Lincoln in the 1860 election. This portrait, from a daguerreotype by Mattew Brady, is surrounded by an elaborate border, with a smaller picture of "An Incident in the Early Life of Mr. Douglas" at the bottom, and a facsimile signature below that. The print is in excellent condition with no discoloration or other damage. It is on heavy paper, and is blank on the reverse. The original tissue guard is present. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being 10 inches by 6-1/2 inches; the image area is about 7-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
