Saint Beat, Upper Garonne, France
1839 Steel Engraving
The beautiful Garonne River flows through Southwest France. Here it is shown below craggy mountains, with the ruins of a castle in the distance, and military men on horseback riding over a bridge through a rural town. Meanwhile, anglers fish by a small waterfall. The picture is by T. Allom, engraved by A. Willmore, and was published by Fisher, Son & Co. of London and Paris in about 1839. It is in excellent condition with no discoloration or other damage, other than a small spot on the upper left margin, far from the image area. The print is on heavy paper, and is blank on the reverse. The margins are bigger than shown here, the print being 11 inches by 8-3/4 inches; the image area is 7-1/2 inches by 5 inches.
