Karla Caves were carved out of solid bedrock in this mountainside around the first century BC.

They're not so much caves as temples -- built in reverse. Instead of placing rocks where they wanted the temple to be, they carved away the rock everywhere where the temple wasn't supposed to be.

For a lot of visitors, Glorian was a lot more interesting than the cave temple.

Kids come on school outings here.
